Skin Gourmet

Skin Gourmet is the Accra-based "edible skincare" brand built on the philosophy that what you put on your skin should be safe enough to eat. Ghanaian entrepreneur Violet Amoabeng began the all-natural line in 2014, using locally sourced ingredients so pure they're edible. The story began when Amoabeng suffered skin irritation after trying various creams and balms, it was through using solely shea butter that the irritation healed without leaving scars or spots, which drove her to start Skin Gourmet. She started with only $45, now works with smallholder farmers and communities in Ghana to source raw materials, with products packaged in Accra and sold in over 30 countries. For deep skin, the raw shea, palm kernel butter and baobab oils target the dryness, ashiness and hyperpigmentation common to melanin-rich skin, with formulations of seven ingredients or fewer. It was named 2025 Skincare Brand of the Year at the Ghana Beauty Awards. An exhaustively documented, ethically sourced gem worth surfacing.
