Nokware, "truth" in Twi, is a sustainable, solution-driven African skincare brand rooted in a generational recipe. Ghanaian Tutuwa Ahwoi and Motswana Thato Tau met in Paris as the only two Black girls in their year; Tutuwa introduced Thato to her great-grandmother's black soap and shea butter, and Thato became obsessed. Nokware was officially born in October 2017, though Thato is no longer with the brand. What sets it apart for deep skin is intentional, tailored formulation: they note skincare isn't one-size-fits-all and always offer more than one lotion because everyone's skin differs, something for hyperpigmentation, acne, or plain moisturisation. The brand also launched the Inclusive Beauty Movement, a campaign challenging colourism and the under-representation of diverse skin shades. Its iconic calabash-and-raffia packaging and all-female Black team make it a genuine indie gem.
