Katini Skin
Founded by Katini Yamaoka

Katini Skin is a facial-oil specialist founded in 2022 by singer-songwriter Katini Yamaoka, who was born in Japan to a Japanese mother and a Ghanaian father (a diplomat and human-rights leader) and raised in Australia. Yamaoka was born in Japan, raised in Australia, spent time in West Africa and lives in New York; her mother is Japanese and her father is Ghanaian. The line threads African ingredients like baobab through every formula. Katini Skin's ingredients include tsubaki from Japan, kakadu plum from Australia and baobab from West Africa. It speaks directly to deep skin's needs: the product works beautifully for anyone with hyperpigmentation, blemishes, and acne scarring. The brand was incubated by Black Progress Resources to champion Black ownership, and after debuting at Saks it entered Sephora. Although Sephora carries several oils from brands such as Youth To The People, Kora Organics and Summer Fridays, Katini Skin is the first brand at the beauty specialty chain solely focused on oils. Caveat: its identity is genuinely tri-continental, so it's African-heritage rather than purely Pan-African.
