Zaron is one of the foundational names in homegrown Nigerian beauty. Founder and MD Oke Maduewesi first developed the brand while studying for an MBA in Leeds, UK, and it has grown immensely popular with 25 franchise outlets and 800 distributors in Nigeria and other African countries. Maduewesi, a former Zenith Bank manager, frames the brand's mission bluntly: this is makeup created by a woman of colour for the woman of colour, because other companies' darker shades are too orange, too red or look ashy, flat and muddy on the skin, neglecting the diverse range of undertones foundations should cater to. The relaunched BrownSkin Foundation and Powder come in more diverse shades with a sweat- and humidity-resistant, transfer-proof, non-oxidising formula. Beyond colour, the Skin by Zaron line (cruelty-free, paraben-free, dermatologist-tested) tackles hyperpigmentation, UV damage and uneven tone.
