Uncover Skincare
Founded by Sneha Mehta, Jade Oyateru (co-founders)

Uncover is a Nairobi-born, women-founded skincare brand launched in 2020 by Sneha Mehta and Jade Oyateru with the explicit aim of serving a beauty market they describe as one of the world's most underserved. Founded by three women in Kenya in 2020, it has developed a range of cosmetics that serve the needs of African women. The brand fuses Korean formulation science with African-grown botanicals, with every product containing at least one continental ingredient. For deep skin, its sharpest move is sun care: while demand for sunscreen grows among African women, they often complain it leaves a ghostly white layer, so Uncover formulated a hydrating, fast-absorbing sunscreen that doesn't leave a white cast. Products are validated by Kenyan and Nigerian focus groups, and the line targets hyperpigmentation, acne and dryness. Since 2020, Uncover has amassed a digital audience of more than 170,000 and raised $1.5 million in funding. The honest caveat: products are manufactured in South Korea rather than on the continent. Still, it's a flagship example of melanin-first East African skincare and a worthy anchor for any deep-skin catalogue.
