Pinklipps is a Kansas City lip-and-clean-beauty brand with a true kitchen-table origin story. When Kenyata Gant's daughter was young and obsessed with lip gloss, Gant decided to make some herself, and after experiments in her mother's kitchen realized it could be more than a craft activity. As a single mother money was tight, so on a whim she posted on Twitter that she was looking for an investor, and amazingly found one. While Pinklipps started with lip gloss, it expanded to clean makeup for all skin tones, and as a Black-owned brand Gant specifically tries to serve women whose colors are typically left out of most beauty brands. The cosmetics are highly-pigmented, kiss-proof and long lasting up to 13 hours, and are vegan, paraben, gluten and cruelty free. The brick-and-mortar store closed in 2023, and the line was carried in Target and Hy-Vee from 2022 to 2025. A deserving indie pick; verify current stockists since its big-retail run has wound down.
