Nilotiqa is a proudly South African natural haircare and skincare brand built for Black women's kinks, coils and deep skin. Created by a black woman, for black women, to nurture, protect and care for their kinks and coils, this proudly South African brand makes use of rich, nourishing and moisturising ingredients sourced from South Africa and Africa. Founder Thokozile Mangwiro, a former database administrator with a Master's in ICT, calls herself an "unintentional entrepreneur" who left corporate life after struggling to find products for her natural hair. Nilotiqa was researched and formulated in 2014 and launched in 2016 as a natural and organic hair care product solution to dry, brittle hair. The discovery angle is its hard-won mainstream retail breakthrough. It took two years of knocking on retail doors for Nilotiqa to debut onto Clicks shelves nationwide; then a further year for Nilotiqa to debut on the shelves of Dischem and Pick n Pay nationally. A distributor has since invested. South African beauty distributor Sunpac has partnered with Thokozile Mangwiro and invested in her natural haircare brand Nilotiqa. Caveat: it is hair-led, with skincare a secondary line.
