Pat McGrath Labs is the prestige line of the British makeup legend, and her foundation was built with deliberate shade equality. After 25 years of field research and six years of product development, the legendary makeup artist channeled her experience into the Sublime Perfection Foundation. The 36 shades span five levels, Light, Light Medium, Medium, Medium Deep and Deep, and it was important to McGrath that each category be distributed equally, with an even number of tones per complexion category, unlike ranges that concentrate options in the lighter end. The shades are grouped from Light to Deep with neutral, warm and cool undertones, so whether very fair or richly deep, you're likely to find a match with no ashy or orange cast. Honest caveat: it's a luxury price point (~$68) and a lighter, buildable coverage that some reviewers find too sheer or drying. But for deep skin seeking a true second-skin finish, the undertone refinement is exceptional. McGrath is the rare deep-shade founder retailers list as Black-owned and -founded.
