Mented, short for pigMented, was born from a very specific frustration shared by two Black women. The brand was founded in 2017 by KJ Miller and Amanda E. Johnson to make nude lipsticks for deep skin tones the standard, not an afterthought. The two were puzzled over why neither could find the perfect nude lipstick for their skin tones, and from that conversation a beauty brand was born, full of shades made specifically to flatter Black and Brown skin. All products are vegan, cruelty-free and pigmented enough to pop on deep skin. The line has since grown well beyond lip. From the original nude lipsticks to its Skin by Mented foundation, each product is pigMented to complement your skin tone, with a shade finder to match. All products are vegan, paraben-free, non-toxic and cruelty free. The discovery angle: Mented is one of the cleanest, most consistently deep-tone-first indies, and its nude lip range remains a benchmark.
